
Although popular as a tourist destination Nepal is one of the poorest countries of the world. Over 40% of the population survive on less than one US dollar a day. Ongoing insurgancy by Maoist separatists has killed over 13,000 people since 1996 and causes regular disruption to everyday life.(source:BMS)

Following a six month period of language study and orientation, Ian, Cynthia and their children, Justin and Lucy will be living in Kathmandu. They will be supporting the delivery of healthcare, and Ian will be working with the Human Development and Community Services as health services department advisor.
